Garlic

EATING GARLIC PREVENTS COVID-19 – FALSE 

There is no evidence to suggest that eating garlic protects you against the virus. Yes, garlic can help support immunity, but it cannot prevent COVID-19. 

SPRAYING ALCOHOL OR SALINE OVER YOUR BODY WILL KILL THE VIRUS – FALSE 

While alcohol and chlorine can be used as disinfectants on surfaces, neither will kill a virus that has already entered your body. Spraying your body with such substances can be harmful, particularly to your eyes and mouth. 

Young and Old

COVID-19 ONLY AFFECTS OLDER PEOPLE – FALSE 

COVID-19 affects EVERYONE. Although, It appears that older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) are more vulnerable to the virus.

People of all ages are encouraged to take steps to protect themselves from the virus. This includes personal hygiene particularly hand and respiratory hygiene. In addition to this, YOU should be taking steps to strengthen your immune system with sufficient hydration, nutrient intake, and adequate sleep. 

Anitbiotics

ANTIBIOTICS PREVENT COVID-19 - False

Antibiotics do not work against viruses, only bacteria.  Antibiotics should not be used as a means of prevention. 

However, if you are hospitalised for COVID-19, you may receive antibiotics as bacterial co-infection is possible. 

HAND DRYERS KILL THE COVID-19 - False 

Hand dryers are not effective in killing COVID-19. To protect yourself you should frequently wash your hands with soap and water and use anti-bacterial sanitiser. Once your hands are cleaned, dry them thoroughly using paper towels or a warm air dryer.
